The Chobham section of Pigot's Directory, 1839Is an agricultural village and parish, in the first division of the hundred of village 26 miles w. s. w. from London, 12 N. N. E. front Farnham, 9 N. from Guildford, 6 s. s. w. from Chertsey, and 4 s.e. from Bagshot the heath of which latter place forms a considerable proportion of the parish. About two miles and a half distant, is a station on the London and Southampton railway. At Chobhain park are the remains of a large mansion, in which Archbishop Heath died ; and about a mile from the village is Chobham place, the seat of the late Samuel Thornton, Esq who was one of the members for the county.The places of worship are the parish church, an ancient structure, dedicated to St. Lawrence, two chapels for Baptists, and one for Wesleyan methodists. The living is a vicarage, in the patronage of the family of Thornton, and incumbency of the Rev. Junes Jerram. The parish contained, in 1831, 1,937 inhabitants.
