The Clump

The old clump of scots pines above Staple Hill car park on Chobham Common was a familiar landmark to be seen from most parts of Chobham in the old days. However, erosion of the hill top and finally vandalism of the last few trees resulted in the loss of this striking feature in about 1960. A new planting has been made, adjacent to the old site, and although it is not on such high ground, it should be making an appearance on the skyline within the next few years. The Chobham Society's emblem is a silhouette of the last trees that survived and were known as 'The Queen's Clump' or just 'The Clump'.

Burrowhill Green

One mile north of the village centre is situated an extensive green, complete with its old forge, an ancient pub -'The Four Horseshoes' - and old cottages (including a listed 17th century house). Recent efforts have added to the natural charm of the Green, including a complete renovation of the village pump (now in full working order) and the creation of a pond which lies at the level of the local water table. Brass band concerts and Morris dancing take place on the Green in summer.

The Runic Cross

Following the death of Queen Victoria, the village decided to commemorate her visit to Chobham during the Great Military Camp of 1853. In 1901 a granite runic cross was erected on a hill beside the road to Sunningdale on the spot where she reviewed her assembled troops before their departure to the Crimean War.
