Management of the CommonThe Common was managed by the Lord of the Manor through the Manor Courts - click on the hyperlink on the left to see some sample records of this court. When the future of the Common was threatened in the 19th C the commoners formed the Chobham Common Preservation Committee which eventually took over the management of the Common. Click on the hyperlink in the navigation pane on the left to see a summary of the minutes. These are the rough scans and have not yet been tidied up. In 1968 the Common was purchased by Surrey County Council from Lord Onslow for £1 an acre. Approximately 1400 acres were managed by the County Council who subsequently contracted the management to the Surrey Wildlife Trust who employ a fulltime ranger complete with a distinctive Land Rover. Round Pond Woods and Chobham Place Woods are owned and managed by Surrey Heath Borough Council.
