Chobham has changed much over the centuries but has managed to retain its charm. In the High Street, enough picturesque houses have been preserved to attract interest and chobham1.jpg (43395 bytes)be admiration by many.

On weekdays the volume of traffic can spoil the enjoyment of strolling around.

But on a Summer's weekend visitors seeking 'olde worlde' charm happily enjoy the atmosphere.

But there has been a price to pay. Neighbouring villages which are eager to host hypermarkets have taken the day-to-day trade.  Therefore, Chobham no longer has a baker, butcher, greengrocer or hardware shop. Instead, the High Street is geared to the needs of visitors - not locals. It is populated with restaurants, boutiques and estate agents. In their own way, the existence of these businesses informally guarantees the preservation of our heritage.
