At Egham in 1333, the Chertsey Cartulary tells us that the vicar had: One well-built moated manse with adjoining croft containing 15 acres of arable land and pasture, 5 acres of arable land, rent from Robert Eldhouse, lots of single acres in common fields. Plus a share of the tithe sheaves from the Abbots land and greater and lesser tithes from many smallholdings and estates. The vicar was exempt from paying tithes on his own land. The abbot is responsible for the rector's responsibilities; repair of the chancel at Egham and repairs of books and other ornaments but the vicar for everything else.1 p82 References:
